FRUCTUOSUS OF TARRAGONA: Bishop of Tarragona and martyr; d. about 259. Little is known concerning his life, except the events connected with his martyrdom, which is said to have taken place in 259, during the reign of Valerian and Gallienus. At the command of Æmilianus, the presiding judge, Fructuosus, with his two deacons, Augurius and Eulogius, was taken from prison to the amphitheater, where all three were burned to death. The festival of Fructuosus is celebrated by the Roman Church on Jan. 21, St. Agnes' Day.
